12?10 Greetings again! Sorry I've been off in updating this. So much seems to get in the way. Hopefully, your child is keeping you updated. We are on our final branch of government. We will be having project presentations next week. Ask you child what they did! We will be learing about the civil rights movement! The children's march, bus boycotts and Rosa Parks will be some of the topics we'll cover. Ask you child about landmark court cases such as, Plessy v Fergeson and Brown v Board of Education! They should know what these were about. Also ask them about Zobel v Williams involving the Alaska Supreme Ct. Have them tell you about the courts and appealing decisions0how far can we go?
Thanks so much! This is really a great group! Enjoy your time with them.

11/16 Greetings Parents! We had WKCE testing all week last week. Yeah, that's done with. We had great attendance that week. Thanks!
Thanks, too, for all that stopped by during conferences. It's always great to touch base.

This week, we are working on finishing up our Executive branch of government. We will have a quiz on Wed. Then they will be presenting their projects. We will review this branch and they will have a study guide. Our test will be next Tuesday!
Also, we've had a few glitches with our current event reports using wiki spaces. We will work on that this week too. Thanks

Sorry, I was out on Monday and Tuesday. Both of my subs left notes saying what a great group of kids they were. I'm so proud!
Last week we finished our Legislative branch of gov't. Projects and tests completed this unit. These will be the final grades on their 1st quarter reports. If you have questions, please let me know.
Also, next week is WKCE testing. Please feed you child well and have them get enough sleep. In addition, I look forward to meeting you during our conferences next week. I'll see you Wed., Thursday or Friday!
This week we started on our Exec. branch. Ask your child about the Electoral College. What does it do? They will tell you! They got a chance to explore this ascept of our government during a lab activity today. More on this later.
    Have a great week. Thanks!

10/23 Greetings! Thanks for everything! It's been a weird week. I've had many students out. This really presents a challenge, but we're all up for it! This week we wrapped up our Legislative branch of government. They signed up for a project with or without a partner of their choice. These projects are due Monday. We had the entire class today to work on it. They've had bits of time all week. Hopefully they are learning and reviewing concepts within this Article I of our Constituition. We will listen to their presentations on Monday and Tuesday (unless if they've been ill for quite a bit of this week). We will have our Legislative test on Wed.! Start reviewing this weekend.
Also we will be using this wiki space for reporting on our current events. Hopefully your child showed you this. Our first one will be due on Wed., Nov.4. This was a change in date due to all the absenses!

Also you can access additional information by going to our district website and logging on to Mrs. Metzler's site. Eventually, I'll have my own, but we do plan and work together. She's been a great asset to me with all of her technolgy skills.
Again thanks and have a great weekend.!

10/16 Thanks! Your children were great! Yesterday one of my sisters (I have six), donated one of her kidneys to a friend. The transplant took place at UW-Madison. It appears to have been very successful! It's been an amazing story and very emotional. I'm going to Madison to spend time with her (and take in the Badger game). I've shared the basics with my students. There questions were very insightful and many were very intrigued with the whole thing. I've tried to tie it in with the preamble to our Constitution...............ask your child what it means. Hopefully, they had a fun week of singing it-which helps memorize it. I've challenged them to include it in their lives! Enjoy life and time!

We've moved on with our study of the Constitution. Have your child sing the preamble! They know it and there is a quiz on Friday. Enjoy the song. We've moved onto the Legislative branch of gov't. They should know the basics. Congress=House of Representatives + Senate. Ask them where they meet! More next week.

    Week of 10/5
    Greetings again,
This week will be a bit goofey. I'll be going to Bubolz Wed.-Friday. Your child will have Mrs. Metzler on the days they are back. We've planned together and all will go well. They will be having a quiz tomorrow on our nation's first three documents. They should know the order of these-Declaration, Articles and the Constitution. They should know the significance of each. While I'm gone they will be working on atlas activites and covering current events using our Upfront magazine.
We will be setting up the Wiki pages for your child. For now, they will be using this tool to send me their current events reviews. More on this as I discover and investigate this new technology. Luckily, I've got Mrs. Metzler to guide me.
Speaking of her, please use her Website under the HASD.org link. You can access this site and get all the information and sheets as they are assigned. It's a great tool. Like I said, we plan together and for the most part, do the very same things.
    Enjoy the Packer game tonight?
This is a great group and I'm loving it! Enjoy!
